Default 800 Aussies free Beersheba in 1917

      Sean

Did you see this on the other thread I posted

800 Aussies delivered Beersheba and it helped free Jerusalem?

      http://www.swcs.com.au/aust3a.htm

Governor General dedicates Israeli park to Aussies

      Interesting historical fact...

Aussies delivered Beersheba on 31 October 1917
Martin Luther posted his 95 thesis on 31 October 1517

Exactly 400 years apart and on 31 October

      Twinkle,

I miss Beer Sheva soo much, and yes, most people in BS know about the Aussies deep into their roots. There was even a guy down the street from where I lived that opened a museum of the ANZAC artifacts from the war he gathered in the Beer Sheva stream.

My tour guide school was adjacent to the British-ANZAC graveyard. So I was there almost daily for two years.

Also there is the Monument to the Lone Australian Soldier park given by the Australians... it has a huge rope park for children that the Australians gave Beer Sheva. My kids used to play there all the time, it also had a water fountain they would get their bathing suits on and swish water around.

Beer Sheva is now a city of 250,000 people, its grown since the days it was only the Old TUrkish city that the Anzacs conquered in 1917. In a few years it will pass Ashdod and Haifa as the third largest city in Israel after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. It has four malls, the biggest outdoor shopping center in Israel, and is now building the largest eco-friendly mall in the world.

We are also home to Ben Gurion University- about 20,000 students and another 6,000 students in other adjacent colleges in Beer Sheva (K College, Etgar college, Beit Yaziv Open University, and Beer Sheva Engineering College). I went to Beit Yaziv. Alot of believers go to Ben Gurion though.... one of the best colleges in Israel.

Anyways, Aussies have alot to be proud of in Beer Sheva, its an amazing city. I miss it so much (moved to Bet Shemesh area four months ago).

I used to tell people Beer Sheva is the only city you can go to a state of the art architectural building that you only see in places like Seatle and New York and in front of it a poor Bedouin with a Bedouin wear on riding a camel. Its where Jewish postmodernism meets third world eastern miedieval world.

It was my privilege to be the host for the current members of the Australian Light Horse at the dedication of the monument and the park. We also had a ceremony in commemoration of the fallen at the British cemeteries in both Jerusalem and Beer Sheva. One of the people in the group was the sister in law of the leader of the charge. She was 3 at the time of the charge making her 93 at the time of the dedication. And, yes, I am a large fellow. Sandy, on the other hand, is not extremely tall. My wife, as pictured, is taller than Sandy.
Come for a visit, I'd be happy to walk you through the charge of the light horse and the defeat of the Turks in 1917.
Did you know that they also assisted in the liberation of Jerusalem and the capture of the Tzemach junction at the southern end of the Galilee?

      Tom,

Did you know about the ANZAC museum in the Neve Noy neighborhood? Next time you take a group, look it up. Its walking distance from the Well of Abraham site....right across the bridge.

They are also creating a new museum at the end of the Beer Sheva River park walkway dedicated to the Calcolithic cave culture of Beer Sheva. When they finish the project, they are going to fill the Beer Sheva River with water and even create a boat park in one spot.

and for my wife to be closer to her family after we had our third child.

I live in a moshav called Messilat Zion.
      Its next to Bet Shemesh.

Bet Shemesh is a 20 minute drive to Jerusalem, my moshav is 15 minute drive to Jlem.

My wife's family is from Kibbutz Tzora, which is now a six minute drive, from Beer Sheva, it was an hour.

By the way, Tzora is where the angel of the Lord appeared to Samson's mother and where Samson grew up.

This is not intended as a means of re-starting the debate about wine and Christians but Kibbutz Tzora has a little boutique winery. I guided a wine tour last year and the participants all agreed that it has some of the best, including some of the world renowned French wineries. Of course, how would I personally know if it is true? I'm just guessing, of course. I mean, I've never even been to a winery in France. When the Riesling grapes do well, the winemaker does a Johannesburg Riesling that wins gold ribbon awards. They say it is superb with cheese or served as communion.

I love the Tzora Winery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife's niece used to work there as a waitress when they had a restaurant, her name is Tal, she is a believer too.

They used to do honey as well, with a picture of Samson eating honey on it.
