We have an accountant... DH is self-employed. She is worth every penny we pay her. She reads the tax laws, the changes, etc., and has always had good suggestions on what we need to change. I think that DH's company is an S-Corp.... yeah, like I even know what that means.

An S corp is a corporation that has elected to be treated more as a partnership for tax purposes. Tax liabilities are passed to the shareholders instead of having a corporate tax rule.
Sounds like you have a good accountant and when you find a good accountant, don't let them go!
I've done audit assistance for people whose accountants really messed up. Yikes! One case, a truck driver's accountant ASSUMED that he paid for his gas directly out of pocket. Gave him the deduction on form 2106 which is added to the itemization.
Well, what she didn't know was that the company pays all his gas and now he owes $2,500....

Yes, we have an excellent accountant, and yes, DH's business is a partnership with another guy. We may outgrow her in a year or two, though, and may have to find someone else... unless she can "keep up." I don't pretend to know everything about this, but just from what DH has said, they may need a much more seasoned accountant.

A good one will be able to 'see' ahead and offer ideas that will do what all good one's want to do.....
Keep as much money from Uncle Sam and in your pocket as is possible, legally of course.

I have a tax question...
I already filed my taxes for this year, and then another employer that i have done some work for filed a 1099. I understand I have to ammend my taxes. It is really confusing.. if I can't figure it out, could I just add the amount to my taxes next year? don't I have three years to pay?
So, next year I would send out my w-2 for 2012 and in addition, my 1099 for 2011? would that work?
