Shaine Claeborne recently said that the "cross lost" when Bonhoeffer tried to assasinate Hitler...nevermind that this same guy is going to speak at a antisemetic and anti-Israel event called Christ at the Checkpoint.

However, do you think BOnhoeffer tried to do the right thing?

I think he did. He said it so perfectly himself:

2. Who is this Shane dude, and who cares what he has to say? Is he a theologian?
3. I would greatly wrestle with the question of "taking someone out". But...but....I'd do it.
4. Shane is lying through his teeth when he infers that because Hitler "held a bible" while ranting like a megalomaniac, that somehow Hitler held to some sort of Christian theology. The fact is, Hitler had many priests arrested, closed down Catholic schools, and killed (possibly) millions of Catholic Poles. Hiter was RACE obsessed, not RELIGION obsessed. He has no credibility with me.

I have actually talked to atheists who bring up Hitler and his supposed Christianity as a reason religion is so bad and causes wars and death.

I wonder:

Do they realize how stupid they sound?
Do they really believe Hitler was a Christian? (if so, they might want to read some history...Hitler HATED Christianity)

Some people amaze me and it amazes me even more that some Christians even believe that Hitler had some sort of faith. Um, holding a Bible in your hand does not make one a Christian, especially if you are ranting and raving against the Jews and murdering anyone who comes against you. Duh.

Shane Claeborne is a postmodern teacher among Christian youth today in the evangelical world (also speaks at emergent church events). He is most well known in christian social justice issues...he has taken the mantle of Tony Campolo.

He is actually very popular in the evangelical postmodern world...probably the most popular person left of the emergent church movement that is still popular.

Christ at the Checkpoint is a conference in Bethlehem that has major and well known speakers such as Brother Andrew, Shane Claeborne, Lynne Hybels,Tony Campolo, and other major evangelical figures that basically tries to burn Israel and discredit any type of pro-Israel theology.
Its turned into a movement with movies like "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" and "With God on Our Side."

Of course, Brother Andrew shares the state with well known antisemites like Stephen Sizer and antisemite and Holocaust denier Ben White.

All these movies and the conference have the HQ at Bethlehem Bible College, which basically is the center of Palestinian evangelical liberation theology...which many evnagelicals are now embracing mixed with replacement theology.

Brother ANdrew stated that Paul said to "fight the good jihad" and also stated that he understands why Muslims hate the West after everything we do to them. He is very very very very very pro-Palestinian. He speaks at the Christ at the Checkpoint conference every year and is one of the visiting professors at Bethlehem Bible COllege (main evangelical college expousing Palestinian liberation theology and replacement theology).
