      Default Spray Foam Insulation

I am attempting to find this product. But wasn't there a product where you could "punch" "drill" a hole into the sheetrock and "fill" the wall with this spray foam insulation instead of taking off all your existing sheetrock and line with insulation?

I find these kits, but it shows application on exposed walls, not walls that are all ready completed.

I found a small canister at Hope Depot, but it doesn't look like much.

Any guidence would be greatly apprecaited.

As far as I know you can blow insulation into existing walls but not spray the foam insulation. Blown insulation is either fiberglass or cellulose. Foam insulation that is sprayed expands and if you attempted to fill an existing wall you are likely to cause some damage to the wall.

Yep, the blown in is what you could blow into a rather large hole. The spray was on exposed wall and had to be trimmed off after it was finished expanding. They now also have a cellulose that you spray on like the foam. It has enough moisture to stay in the cavity until you drywall over it. You also have to trim it flush with the wall and the insulating value is much better than the foam. Also, what you scrape off can be used again. You just put it in the hopper and spray it again. The moisture is some type of glue water. I think it will eventually replace the foam.

(blow-in cellulose is good stuff for attics but after a span of years would settle out in wall cavities)

Well thanks gentlemen. I apprecaite the feed back and information. Just trying to do the "work smarter not harder" on the possible insulation job. I am not sure I want to tear apart the wall at this point and install the "rolled" insulation and seal up the wall again.

Insulation can be blown into walls as well as into attic areas. There has to be a hole drilled between each stud of the framing, so there is patchwork to be done about every 16 inches on the walls. It does leave some air pockets here and there as there is no way to be sure of filling every gap on an enclosed wall. But it is much better than no insulation as some older homes do not have any. It is a good alternative if you can't afford completely new walls, or do not wish to tear your whole house apart.

Papabret I have never done that before but how long does it take and do you think it is easier than just taking the wall down to put the insulation in?
