I once heard someone refer to another woman as having a Jezebel Spirit because she was wearing too much make up, haha - I dunno, maybe they thought she was Tammy Faye or something....it seems as if SOME people in Christian circles toss out that term without even knowing what they are talking about
Many Pentecostals back before the Charismatic were heavily influenced by the Holiness movement and emphasized modesty. For some churches, this turned into some legalistic rules on clothing and hairstyles. In some of these churches, women who wore make-up were referred to as Jezebels since Jezebel put on makeup before her death. She was seen as a type of a woman with makeup I suppose.

I don't think these Pentecostals taught that her ghost turned into a principality and became the Jezebel spirit, or that she had a specific demon that led to the wearing of makeup.

It is interesting that different people have different opinions of what constitutes having the Jezebel spirit. One poster on the thread tells of demonic attacks with various ailments. John Paul Jackson describes this as a spirit afflicting women. Someone else says it can afflict men and women. There does not seem to be much agreement on this.

For Jezebel spirit adherants, if a woman doesn't wear makeup, can she have the Jezebel spirit?

The question is, can we identify which spirit is which by a list of symptoms? If so, how, when, and through whom did God reveal these symptoms. I have heard and read where people assert the characteristics of the Jezebel spirit, quoting verses scriptures, as if those scriptures taught that these were the characteristics of a particular spirit. It does not. What is the idea that there is one 'Jezebel spirit' with these lists of characteristics based on? I don't want to believe doctrine based on charismatic hearsay-- repeating and adding a little to the latest pop doctrine coming around the bend. I want to believe doctrine that is revealed by God.

Jezebal usurped her husband's authority with an evil trap to get Naboth killed for his vineyard. Ahab could have stopped her but didn't. Elijah confronted King Ahab on this deed and God charged HIM with the murder, indicating he had the ultimate authority/responsibility (1 Kings 21).

Similarly, Herod gave in to his wife Herodius evil plan to kill John the Baptist. Again, this was a usurping intrigue, based on deception of some level. Herod still could have chosen to stop his daughter's request for John's head; but, as Ahab, also gave in to murder by wife. Both prophets confronted the King - Both wives hated God's prophet.

There are a lot of similarities. There are also some differences. Jezebel's religion endorsed sexual immorality and idolatry, she was behind the murder of prophets. We don't have any evidence that Herodias promoted outright idolatry or sexual immorality, though her second marriage was incestuous, a forbidden marriage under the law of God. She was behind the muder of a prophet.

So, although it appears that Jezebel is more "representative" of a spirit, the work of that spirit speaks pretty loud and clear to me through biblical history by it's MO. We can not ignore the fact that the enemy is well-organized, has "devices", hierarchy and strategies to come against God's people.
You are making a huge leap here. How do you get from the idea of Jezebel and Herodias being similar to the idea of this being a spirit. Couldn't there be millions of demons that work this way? Couldn't there be many types or categories of demons that work this way? Why blame it on a demon that the Bible does not say even exists? Why not blame it on the Devil, who apparently has a kingdom (Matthew 12.)

What is the basis for saying that a 'Jezebel spirit' exists in the first place? other than the fact that it has been a 'pop' doctrine for several years?

Btw, does everyone who says 'Jezebel spirit' mean an actual demon, or do you mean something like 'school spirit'-- not a real demonic entity?

Big-time prophets often call for big-time demonic P&P's and big-time earthly authority such as Kings.

Link, I can agree that there is some folklore woven into this teaching but there is a principality we can identify and name as jezebel. The jezebel spirit primarily attacks prophets and prophetically gifted people. The reason is that they operate more in discerning of spirits and word of knowledge which is a threat to them. I am battling a fight with this spirit right now and many innocent lives are involved. The persons having this spirit want me out of the picture. I was warned a year ago that it was coming and I would be the watchmen to see it. If I did not see it coming and warn the leadership a whole group of people who have been hurt before would be hurt again. You do not have a clue as to what you are talking about in the area of the demonic. I have seen nice guys like you eaten up and spit out broken and destroyed in every way because they knew not the battle they were in.

      Yes.

In case you missed it during this discussion, the spirit can also be carried by men.

It has nothing to do with wearing makeup or not wearing it, or how long or short or tight a woman's dress is, or other such nonsense.

What being a Jezebel, or having a 'Jezebel spirit', seems to change from person to person and over time. John Paul Jackson thinks it is unlikely that a man would have a 'Jezebel spirit.' Other people disagree. Could it be that people are just putting this 'Jezebel' label on a spirit based on a list of characteristics they heard in a sermon on the subject? One person has one idea of what it means, and another has another. What revelation is all this based on? When we start teaching things that aren't based on scripture it is easier to diverge in our thinking on such matters.

      Revelation 2
20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.

Jezebel in the Old Testament led the people into paganism. Canaanite paganism was known for its sexual rituals. Eating meat offerred to idols was a part of their religion, too. There is nothing in Jesus' words about the woman being called Jezebel because she was controlling. There is nothing in the passage that justifies calling someone who has a controlling personality or various other flaws a 'Jezebel' if she doesn't lead people into fornication and eating food offerred to idols.

Notice this passage says nothing about a demon named Jezebel. Jesus referred to a woman as 'that woman Jezebel.' Jezebel was the name of a Canaanite princess who married an Israelite king. Her ghost did not transform into some kind of principality upon her death. There is nothing in scripture that says that a principality is named after her.
Link, it's not that this demon's name is Jezebel, but the nature of the beast can best be explained by looking at the life of Jezebel. It was the same or a simular demonic influence that was behind THE Jezebel. Many times we put physical names to spiritual entities in order to help ourselves and others understand their natures and how they operate. The spiritual influence(s) behind the original Jezebel display certain character traits through the persons that they demonize even today. It is much simpler to just refer to these demonic influences as "Jezebel".

Side note: The best way to disarm the "Jezebel spirit" is to make sure there are no "Ahab"s around.

LinkH, you seem to think that this 'jezebel' teaching is rather flakey...I understand your concerns, I really do. Like Lionheart said earlier, there is a lot of misinformation and flakiness and folklore out there...but the reason why many of us here are arguing the fact there there is a specific demonic entity that targets the prophetic flow and /or office is that many of us have encountered it first hand. Like Ezekiel said above, it's been given the name 'jezebel' to describe the 'nature of the beast'...also, I don't see this necessarily as a doctrine per se but more of an awareness of the enemy's devices (in the spirit of 2 Corinthians 2:11)
